Rates

Indexes are generally charged on a page rate per indexable page although per hour and per entry options are available. Indexable pages are those containing content the indexer is expected to evaluate for index entries, generally excluding front matter, notes, and bibliographies.

Rate considerations include:
Density of text (number of words or index entries per page)
Number and type of indexes required (subject, name, title)
Subject matter
Audience for text (professional, researcher, student, general public)
Turnaround time
Page size and format
Generally, rates range from $3.00 - $5.50 per page. Therefore, a book with 200 indexable pages at $3.00 per page is $600.00.

For a bid project, in order to determine a fair rate, a client should submit sample pages for evaluation. These pages must come from an interior chapter of a book, not introductory material.

When beginning work on an index, I need the following information:
Title of Book

Date of Delivery of Index to You
Index Specifications Format: Indented or Run-in?
Alphabetization: Word-by-word or Letter-by-letter?

Illustrations Indexable? If yes, Format for Reference Locator.
Length Limit to Final Index?
Will a sample of the requested index format be available to me?

Please contact me for a quote or any other questions you have about my indexing.
